Dr Palferman holds, and has held, many senior positions in the NHS and in UK Rheumatology. He has been involved in clinical research for more than twenty-five years and has presented original work internationally.

Past-President and now Vice President of the section of rheumatology at the Royal Society of Medicine, he has chaired the British Society for Rheumatology’s Clinical Affairs Committee, is an expert adviser to NICE, scientific adviser to the National Osteoporosis Society and an examiner for the MRCP at the Royal College of Physicians, London.

He has also published and lectured widely on Beethoven’s medical history.
